With no sitcoms being on air at the moment, Tony and Deeya Singh are all set to spread smiles with their laugh riot venture Sumit Sambhal Lega on Star Plus.
The official adaptation of Everybody Loves Raymond will hit screens from 31 August, and at the launch of the show, Tellychakkar.com got in a conversation with Deeya Singh to talk more about her project.
“It is time we actually sit together with our family and have a great time laughing watching TV. Across soaps, we have forgotten that sitcoms provide the maximum entertainment. So it is our efforts to make viewers laugh through our show,” said the pretty producer.
Talking about the decision to launch the adaptation, Deeya said, “Star had got the rights of the show and have been calling us for a while. With the series having been successfully adapted all across, we decided to go for it and implement some interesting twists and turns and make the show more Indian family oriented. It would be a 108 episode finite series. We have a team of writers and directors working extensively on the content.”
“Even when we have so many dailies, we are stuck with women oriented drama. This is the first time that a story will be presented from the point of view of a man. I think every man would be able to connect with the stories and will also get tips on how to get out of situations like this,” added the creative woman.
When we quizzed Deeya of the choice of signing the unconventional Namit Das as the lead, she said, “I think it was an advantage as he came to the show without any baggage. He wasn’t spoilt with the trends of daily soaps and has a great background of theatre. Also he is innocent, looks like the part completely and is a great actor.”
Asked about the pressure of launching a successful series in India and she said, “We are completely excited about Sumit Sambhal Lega as it will revolutionise how we watch TV. Also the campaign and the buzz surrounding it have been giving us a positive vibes and we are all set to go for it.”
We wondered if Deeya fought over Tony. Smilingly she answered, “It is actually a fun practice among saas-bahus, but unfortunately Tony’s mom is not with us anymore. But yes, now my daughter fights with me over him (laughs). So the fights continue!”
Wish you great luck Deeya with Sumit Sambhal Lega!!!
